The Miseducation of Cameron Post - Sunday Cinema

November 18 4:45 to 6:35 pm

A teenage girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) is caught in the backseat of a car with the prom queen on prom night in 1993 Montana, leading to her conservative guardians forcing her to go to a religious boarding school to undergo gay conversion therapy. Run by the strict Dr. Lydia Marsh (Jennifer Ehle) and her brother, Reverend Rick (John Gallagher Jr.)—himself an example of how those in the program can be “cured”—the center is built upon repenting for “same sex attraction.” Cameron bonds with fellow residents, including the amputee stoner Jane (Sasha Lane), and her friend, the Lakota Two-Spirit, Adam (Forrest Goodluck),  as they pretend to go along with the process while being subjected to outlandish disciplinary and "de-gaying" techniques. Based on the book by Emily M. Danforth.

This is a film where there”…are miraculous, touching moments which will leave an indelible mark on LGBT cinema.” – Austin Dale, OUT.com

“Cameron Post‘s greatest strength is in its authenticity and intimacy, which is due in no small part to Akhavan, who co-wrote and directed the movie. A queer woman herself, Akhavan gives us a coming out story told through a queer female lens... the teens of Cameron Post ultimately find faith not in the church, but in themselves and each other. And that’s a beautiful thing.” — Chelsea Steiner, The Mary Sue
