Jazz at the Griff: Tiny Islands

Trail & District Arts Council's Jazz at the Griff Series presents Vancouver's Tiny Islands.

Energetic and playful, these musicians will bring New Orleans Jazz, swing, funk, and originals to the jazz club setting of The Griff! Tiny Island's tunes about love and life blend complexity with accessibility while always joyfully bringing people together to share in the eternal spirit of jazz music.

Leader Tim Sars has a fluent and deeply melodic style draws on a spectrum of inspirations-from Afrobeat, New Orleans, Ellingtonian jazz, Balkan Brass, Funk, and Latin jazz. He also plays piano, flute, and sings - and in his recent self produce albums you can hear his skill as a composer and arranger of various styles of jazz, pop, and funk.

Tim’s influences cover everything: Ross Barrett, Gerry Mulligan, David Branter, Cat Empire, Kris (Smaqu2), Billie Holiday, Chet Baker, Bach, Oliver Nelson, Micheal and Greg Moore, Astrid Sars, Eckhart Tolle, Eric Dolphy, Lisa Gough, Thelonious Monk, Duke Ellington, Sharin Minamoto, Sonny Rollins, Rob Shepp, Tyr Jami, Todd Macdonald, Andrew Smith, Brian Milks, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Mozart, Allan Matheson, Kermit Ruffins, Coat Cook, Jen Lewin.
