Food: from local to global and in between
Wednesday Apr 9, 2008 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm
Nowhere Special Lounge
2104 Columbia (Rossland's main street)
Come drink and discuss with our special guests:
Abra Brynn, works with Kootenay/Boundary farmers and food producers, providing information and resources, encouraging networks and collaboration to assist in fostering safe, local and sustainable food systems. She is passionate about the economic, social and environmental impacts of the industrial food system on our global community.
Aaron Cosbey is a consultant on trade policy, climate change and sustainable development, living in Rossland. Aaron, who mills his own flour, is a development economist, and will argue that it is not always true that the further a food travels to our plates the worse it is. Some imported foods may be better than local from both an environmental and development perspective.
Velvet Kavanagh has run Endless Harvest, the Kootenay's organic food home delivery service, for the past ten years. She enjoys eating good food, and sharing new foods and food ideas with people through her business, as well as her newspaper and radio columns.
DL, is passionate about eating green and has been farming organically in the Slocan Valley for ten years. He will share the ins and outs of dealing with new meat processing regulations in the province and how that affects local farmers and consumers. DL is a local Red Mountain skier and the man behind 'DLs trees' on Mt. Roberts.
Marty Cinchilla of Rossland Co-op Radio will host the evening.
