Ironman Canada Results 2008!
Wow! What an impressive showing by Dallas, Rita, and Gord and far away members Ryan and Fergus! Everyone vastly improved their 2007 times and showed that a lot of hard work, dedication and effort pay off. You are all an inspiration!
Dal's fabulous news is that he did us all proud by coming in first - yes first - of ALL age groupers. He was the fastest non-pro of the day and improved on his 2007 time by a massive 32 minutes and 20 seconds, crossing the finish line with huge smile on his face. He also placed above 8 Male Pro Athletes and is heading to Kona!
Ryan slashed over 27 minutes off his 2007 time and also qualified for Kona. Gord flew in well under 11 hours taking over 24 minutes off his 2007 time. Rita, hot on Dal, Ryan & Gord's heels after an impressive swim knocked a fantastic 16 minutes and 18 seconds off her 2007 time.
There will be detailed race report to follow that will do far more justice to everyone's efforts, but just for now - here are the splits and overall results:

Wow, what a day in Penticton!!!!!!!!!
I am so excited to write this report, because it was an excellent day all around! Here is my take on the day.
Dallas, I knew that you were going to rock this race, and your 9hr18min split doesn't surprize me a bit, but to see you at work in person was spectacular and very exciting!!!! Wow, what an improvement in the water, 1hr 4 min swim, no more middle lane for you! You looked so powerful on the bike & determined on the run, there was nothing going to stand in your way of being the first amateur to cross the finish line. You raced like a PRO, and there is no question that is the class you belong in!
Ryan, you were racing incognito for me at first, I didn't see you on the swim or bike, but you looked STINKING PHENOMINAL on the run! I couldn't believe how relaxed and comfortable you looked running your 3:01 marathon. Thanks for the smile & high five at the 35km mark! And what a huge finish, Aloha!!! Looks like there will be another battle between the 'Big Show' and the 'Little Show' in Kona! Congrats!
Gord, a HUGE CONGRATULATIONS on the performance of a lifetime!!!!! It was so great to be a part of such an important day in your life, something you have been working towards for 16 years! It brought tears to my eyes to see you doing so incredible, bringing it all together for this day. And to see how your family, extended family, and friends all rallied together to cheer & encourage you was so inspirational. We are all so proud of you and what you have accomplished, and thanks for treating me like one of the family!
Rita, YOU ROCK! Your swim was so great, to see you out of the water right there in the thick of it with the top age groupers was awesome! You looked fantastic in the HATC uniform and always in such good spirits! It was so awesome and an honour to ride my bike next to you from the 35km mark to near the finish, you were amazing! You would think that someone who had just swam 3.8km, biked 180km & run 35km would be a bit speechless, no not Rita! She's asking me about MY day and if -I- had had a good time, and then, when I accidently dropped my shades, she says "oh, I'll get those for you", and stops, during HER race to pick up MY shades! But this race was tough, and there was no question that despite her being the sweetest racer on the course, she was digging deep and pushing herself to the limit! What an impressive feat of determination & drive! Way to go Mrs Cain!!!!!
A special thanks to Carol, who took a chunck of her day on friday to get to the border to pick up the racing suits for our racers to have on Sunday! Thanks Carol! And ofcoarse thanks to Seth for all the work you put into getting the team uniforms put together, they look great! Thanks Seth!!
