2018 Sport Chek National Tech Championships & Canadian National Ski Cross Championships

The Red Mountain Racers and RED Mountain Resort have been selected to host both the 2018 Sport Chek Canadian National TechnicalChampionships and the 2018 Canadian National Ski CrossChampionships. The events include training March 17-20 and racing

March 21-25. We anticipate over 260 athletes from across Canada, the United States and Europe. Total out of region visitation for these events is estimated at over 1000.

As part of the events we will be celebrating the 50 th Anniversary of the first World Cup Race ever held in North America (held here in Rossland in 1968 and attended by 7000 people). That first North American World Cup was won by our own Nancy Greene and France’s Jean Claude Killy. The opening ceremonies will occur on March 22 nd (after the first day of racing 4 – 8 pm) and will include a downtown Rossland street festival with live music, entertainers, food vendors, a parade and late night shopping and events.

As noted, our region has a very proud history of ski racing dating back to the first Canadian National Championships (then called the Dominion Championships) which were held 120 years ago here in Rossland. As part of the 2018 Canadian Nationals the Rossland Museum will be showcasing the history of ski racing in Rossland. Many of our Olympic and National Team Alumni will be here participating in the organizing and execution of the 2018 Championships. Red Mountain Resort, the Red Mountain Racers and the Museum are working together to create two displays that will be located in the Red Mountain Resort Day Lodge showcasing our incredible history of ski racing.

With 2018 also being an Olympic year there will be an additional amount of buzz and excitement around the Canadian National Championships. It will be quite a thrill for many to come to our region and watch our Olympic athletes in action.
