Electoral riding boundary

Can anyone tell me how we benefit by having an electoral boundary line drawn between here and Trail?

You will notice that the candidate signs between here and Trail are different.

I don't think we do benefit, I think the lines get drawn as a numbers game.  If you look at the electoral map, there are weird combinations all over the place (e.g. Slocan is the same district as Vernon, Rossland is with Oosoyoos, Salmo is with Fernie)

If you are looking for past election results, this was from 2021, with the old boundary lines for South Okanagan, West Kootenays. It was a very tight race between NDP and Conservatives.

Thanks for sharing that - I had no idea. And it seems really bizarre to me. I wonder which district Warfield ends up in?

It is called "gerrymandering"

gerrymandering

noun

  1. The practice of redrawing electoral districts to gain an electoral advantage for a political party.

It does appear that our traditionally NDP riding has been cut in half in a sea of conservative leaning districts. So if I my preference is Carney over Pollievre do I continue to vote NPD over Liberal now that the NDP seems to be imploding? What kind of supposedly non political panel does that to a district? Gerrymandering is kinda bulshit!!

Vote conservative!  Canada cannot afford another term under the Liberals.

Biekskiswim: Can we not have political campaigning here, you're going to make me vomit.

Thank you for that link mde999, here are links to all candidates (in no particular order):

Rebecca Morris - I have been thinking exactly that myself! I really liked Alex Atamenenko (NDP MP 2006-2015), I thought he represented us really well and have voted NDP ever since. I like that our political system has multiple parties, and I like that NDP has a voice in parliament. I was proud to have voted NDP even though they aren't the ruling party.

But, I wonder how many votes for NDP are going to be lost to the liberals because media keeps telling us that its a 2 party race between Conservative and Liberal. Given how close it was in the past I feel like if you want to support Liberals its best to actually vote NDP, but who knows what will actually happen this time around! Ultimately, I think I am going to research more on our candidates and just vote for the one that I think will represent our local riding the best in Ottawa and most closely aligns with my values.

Thank you for those links!  I also wonder how many NDP votes may be lost to Liberals, especially given the impressive bio of the candidate.  Its tough to know if one should vote for the person whose bio and campaign impresses most...vs vote strategically for the party historically most liky to win the seat over the alternative you don't want.
