Petition Canadian Gov't to reverse Sinixt Extinction

In 1956 the Canadian Government wrongfully declared the Sinixt (indigenous people of West Kootenays) extinct. The Sinixt were forcably pushed out of this area by colonial settlers but they continue to exist and live in the area and elsewhere.

You may have heard of the Desautel case that recently went through the Supreme Court of Canada. This case proved that Sinixt people who live south of the border have the right to hunt in Canada. This DID NOT undue the declaration of extinction. The Sinixt are still considered extinct in Canadian law.

Our MP, Richard Cannings, presented a petition to the Canadian government in 2020 but it only had 159 signatures. You can see a bit of info here: https://openparliament.ca/debates/2020/2/6/richard-cannings-1/only/

The Autonomous Sinixt (Smum Iem Marilyn James) is asking folks to sign the petition again and Richard Cannings has agreed that with enough signatures he will present it again.

A copy of the petition is currently at GOLDRUSH BOOK STORE, so please head to the shop and sign the petition!!! We need to show Sinixt people we know they exist!!
